    HI everyone,
I am trying to figure out what is the correct logic of element relations to spaces. I have a case, where I need to do an ITO about rooms (ARC model) and available components (HVAC-E Models) in them. In IFC the relation is constructed if such an element is contained in a space. But there are elements above and below the space which are also in relation to that room.

As far as I understand the IFC Structure, the relation of that element is connected to the room if it is contained in the same storey, respectively IfcBuildingStorey. In the above picture, I have marked the elements outside the space boundaries, but still are connected to that room. Especially the lower ones are actually outside the IfcBuildingStorey, since our Storey Level beginns at FFL and not at SSL.

Does anyone know the exact logic of these relations? I want to make sure, that there won’t be any faulty ITOs.
    thank you

Afaik the “Nearest Space” is based on a calculation by Solibri. It also works when you have the spaces in seperate model. Which is nice, but at the same time not always returning very precise results as for elements within but especially for those outside of space geometries which they would actually belong to it is not uncommon that they are detected falsly. And it is also not guaranteed that the nearest space is solely one space but this depends a bit if you take it from “Location” or from “Relation”. So I am wondering how satisfied you are with your ITO in the end …

I would really like to know this “Solibri Calculation”. Can someone from the @Solibrians give input?

I have generated an ITO which seems up to 90% correct. In some cases it takes elements from storeys above or below (which is wrong) and sometimes it takes components near other components (without a contact with the space)
