Solibri and Virtual Desktops

I’ve recently gotten into the habit of useing virtual desktops on Windows 10. (for clarifications, this shouldn’t be seen as anything new or exotic, its just a way to gather application windows on separate ‘virtual’ desktop views - when i switch to another desktop view, I can quickly have a set of windows laid out on top, instead of toggling all of them on individually, or just compartmentalize taskas on different desktops - also, this is quite useful for remote meetings, so I can have a clutter free layout when screen sharing)
But Solibri seems to have issues with this - if I have Solibri starting up on desktop 1 (not yet opening an SMC), and I switch to another desktop during this, Solibri may just disappear entirely (crash).
Is this a knwon issue? Surely an application should be able to start up ‘left to it’s own’, and not need my eyes in the splash screen?? This also makes autorun tasks a pain to run. -
Hi. Are you able to provide logs from these crashes? They are usually located in
C:\Program Files\Solibri\SOLIBRI\log -
We have had a smiliar experience on a remote desktip connection. Not directly a crash of the application itself but strangely views are stopping to work - especially when we use a custom view it is necessary to restart Solibri every while again to make it work. I thought it might be due to issues with the view itself but it might be related to this. However unfortunately for that events we cannot provide any logs.

Here are copies from my logs - my process was:
- I cleared the logs runtime.log, error.log, gc.log and output.log
- On virtual desktop 2, I opened Solibri and a model at 11:52 . This time no issues, the model opened as normal.
- I switched to virtual desktop 1, and opened another instance of Solibri at 11:55 and started opening another model.
- After less than a minute, the second instance of Solibri disappeared (crashed) from virtual desktop 1.
- [while writing this, I think also the first instance of Solibri diasppeared from virtual desktop 2], unsure of timestamp.
- Starting again, on virtual desktop 1, at 13:00 I start a new instance of Solibri (no remaining instances open before this), opening the same model as at step 2.
- The model opens, finishes processing geometry, shows the model in the 3D window, and crashes instantly at 13:07 (this is a largish model).

@lasse-lindqvist I noted from the logs that I might check my graphics driver version -
so i revereted to an earlier stable version, and- cleared the logs
- On virtual desktop 1, at 13:27 I opened the same model as earlier - this time no crash.
- Still on virtual desktop 1, at 13:36 I opened a second instance of Solibri, and started opening the second model - this time, tehe second instance crashes at about 4% loading the model.
- Instance 1 is still running fine, and I attempted to open model 2 in a second instance again, and it still crashes.

So it seems that this is a Java-crash since our logs show nothing relevant. JVM crash log files are named
hs_err_pid*.logand can be found either from the Solibri installation folder somewhere or alternatively the Windows TEMP folder.
You can also start Solibri from command line using the executable in C:\Program Files\Solibri\SOLIBRI\bin. This way when it crashes it should tell you where it writes the crash file.Since it seems to be a JVM-crash, it also means that is is not that easy for us to fix, but also it might get fixed automatically when we do Java version updates. Currently your version uses 16, and we have an update to 17 in progress.
If we get the crash logs and/or are able to reproduce this reliably even without using Solibri specifically, there is a good chance it will be fixed by Java developers sooner or later.

It is really hard to say what is the root cause in the end since I have no way of reproducing this.
Could be fixable by using different GPU/driver or by us updating LWJGL (library we use in the 3D). Updating LWJGL is not a trivial effort, so we cannot easily provide an installer for you to test though. -
Ok. I’ve tested with a couple of GPU drivers but no luck.
Would be interesting to know if other users have issues with this, or if it’s specific to for example the Nvidia Quadro M2200 GPU… I can check if there’s someone at our office that can try it out if I can find a persistent case that always runs into problems.

…so I did some more troubleshooting, and as a part of this I remembered having adjusted the memory cache, distributing it a little more to other drive partitions instead of holding it all on C:. (this all roughly coincided with other changes to my system, so I had multiplpe variables to check…)
I have now increased the maximum cache on drive C : from under 50Gb to 250Gb (it was this large on other drives earlier), and for now the problems I’ve been having seem to have cleared up. So possibly/probably this was all due to Windows memory cache running out, specifically on drive C:(?).
