    Hi all,

How many of you use CDEs such as ACC/BIM 360/Trimble Connect in order to share and distribute project resources such as classifications, rulesets, ITO templates etc. ?

If you do, could you please elaborate on the workflow? Who creates those resources in your company/project? Who distributes them to other project members and how?

    Thanks!

      Hello @david-welts

We have a few large construction companies (mostly for infra-structure) using also Project Wise… just a complement in the list.

Ressource sharing (in terms of deploying them to colleagues and regularly updating them) is mainly done internally and there a dedicated server with restricted access rights turned out to be working best or better the least painful as I still don’t know of a best practice workflow which is not creating some sort of headache (e.g. synced folders -> https://society.solibri.com/topic/645/shared-resources-and-sharepoint-online/5?_=1685012829212).

So a workflow for using a CDE could be nice for collaboration with other colleagues but needless to say that there should not be any need to also have a CDE to get this up and running for internal purpose as well.

@JSN Yeah that makes sense, and as far as I know many people use sharepoint or other internal servers for that.
I’m just curious about companies that already have a CDE in use, wouldn’t it make sense to use it for resource distribution as well? I know of a few that work like that, but wanted to learn more.

I think with CDEs it makes it a bit easier for us to use the API for updating and syncing files, where as with some bespoke servers it’s not that straightforward.
For context, we are looking into implementing Trimble Connect and Sharepoint next.

          But thanks for the feedback!

Sharepoint is in use but currently it does not work well for ressource distribution. Any improvements here are highly welcome.

@JSN Why it doesn’t work well? What are the issues with it?

On the one hand side there are frequently synchronisation issues especially when ressources have limited access rights and those things https://society.solibri.com/topic/2379/ressources-already-in-use/4?_=1687203953424
