European standardization work starting on area and space measurement
-
Hello,
I’m passing this message here, since I know that many of you are passionate about BIM and making the most of it. This is about how to measure different space areas, like net, gross, storey, etc., based on BIM. The aim is to create an European wide standard that should make the life of many of us easier.
The European Standardization Committee CEN/TC 348 is about to start the revision of the EN 15221-6 “Facility Management. Part 6: Area and Space Measurement in Facility Management”. The idea is to include BIM based measurements to the standard and harmonize - as far as possible -different procedures between member states. The standard would cover all area and space measurements in the revised version, not only in facility management as it is on the scope at the moment.
CEN/TC 348 has it’s plenary meeting on 6th October, where the committee decides to either start the work, or postpone it. CEN demands at least five countries to participate to the work (at least by commenting the draft), and at this point only three countries has expressed their interest.If you feel this is important and the standardization work should start, please contact your national standardization body before 6th October. They should give at least a support vote for the revision at the plenary meeting; of course, if a full contribution and participation to the WG is possible, it’s always welcome!

Can you tell me on which website I can find more info about this?

Hi Ricardo,
I don’t think there’s any website yet. This work is in a very early stage, so there’s not much “sales material”. I’ll see if I can share something more here.

Ah ok. If you have any info, I gladly stay informed.
In the meantime, I will check if we have a body in our country who are busy with this subject. -
@ricardo Great!
