Software to accompany Solibri
-
Hello everybody who I have met at the Solibri Society Event in Barcelona (and everyone who have unfortunately missed it),
At the event I have heard of all sorts of extra software that you all are using to do those tasks that Solibri can’t.
A good example is cloudcompare (https://www.danielgm.net/cc/). This made me think of starting this Topic to share the knowledge about available software in addition to Solibri to use while practising BIM.We use:
Solibri (of course)
SimpleBIM (To split up models if needed)(http://www.datacubist.com/)
Revit (To create models and drawings, we try to avoid this)
Dynamo (to create scripts for Revit to advance cooperations between modellers)
BIMcollab(to share issues and keep track of them)We are testing Dalux at the moment. (https://www.dalux.com/)
Is there any software you are using that could be benificial to all of us?
Please share it here… -
Hello, Martjin,
good idea to collect the technological know-how of the tools a little bit… from this you could derive key features for Solibri as a requirement.
We have already had very good experiences with Dalux in a project and want to work more with it. Now it’s time to convince our management. Besides the fast viewer and the augmented reality function, the main features are the prefabricated communication elements (report, information requests, errors,…) which are then sent to the persons concerned in a targeted manner (predefined on the system).
We also use SimpleBIM to combine models with several buildings into one model if the client so wishes. But we try to have one coordination file per house. In addition, it has already been considered whether it would be possible with SimpleBIM to read the classifications of Solibri (list with classification and GUID) and then attach these to the corresponding components. But from our point of view it is a difficult hack, because the authorship of the model is questioned. An export of the classifications is certainly exciting in order to use them in subsequent systems.
Vectorworks for the creation of our models, which can be very specifically populated with information thanks to the IFC data manager. Here we work as close as possible to the IFC standard 4.1 with regard to the information (enums, properties, Qto,…) even if it is an IFC 2x3 file.
BIMQ for information management and the creation of MVD’s. A check of model against MVD is partly possible today with Excel exports from BIMQ for Solibri Rule 203. However, this should be a standard rule with on-board means in the future.
In addition to BIMcollab, we also looked at BIMTrack and Revizto, which have exciting possibilities to simplify the communication of issues (unfortunately only with BIMTrack with BCF) since the model is also available. In the same direction bimsync has already been used, which has a great API and a connection to the bSDD. But all the tools have a disadvantage, because you have to manage the files again on the respective platform. I haven’t seen a real CDE that solves everything in one.
An exciting approach is also pursued with Iris VR Prospect. With it you can very quickly (Drag’n’Drop) bring models into a Virtual Reality environment. In addition, meetings can be started and further participants can be invited on site or remotely. Virtual coordination can also take place. Unfortunately no IFC is supported here yet and no BCF, but for the customer or team members this way of working has proven to be very profitable. A VR View directly with Solibri would be a great advantage - Solibri on, glasses on and off you go.
For 4D simulations, Ceapoint Desite has joined the team and wants to use rule-based scheduling. This means a sequence of components based on rules instead of “stupid” linking of components with a process. The IfcTask elements should then be able to be displayed by Solibri.
The mentioned CloudCompare is also an exciting approach but must be simplified… so Clash Model <-> PointCloud
KeyFeatures from the tools described above:
- Excellent BIM Viewer with Augmented Reality feature
- Preset communication flows
- Simple handling of projects with several buildings (IfcBuilding)
- Export of classifications to IFC model
- Rule-based control of information for IFC export
- Clash MVD <-> Model
- Connection of model (navigable) and issues incl. BCF but without additional model management
- Drag’n’Drop Virtual Reality
- MultiUser Meeting in Virtual Reality
- 4D Simulation
- Clash Model <-> PointCloud
kind regards, Marc

Hi,
We are using
ARCHICAD to create modells.
Solibri to check
BIMCollab to manage issues.
VICO for cost estimation and time planning.What we also starting to use as project portal is Trimble Connect.
It also have BCF connection with Solibri.Regards

Hello Marc,if you’re still interested in exporting the Solibri classifications into IFC this is maybe interesting to you: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/daanarts_ifc-ifc-activity-6879092349222432768-0AMv. We created a classification exporter which you can use if you have the original IFC file.
But my question is on another topic. Do you know if something in the VR department happened? Because I want to use a Plugin such as IRIS VR Prospect to enter a model in combination with the possibility of using my own compliance checks, but as it seems, Solibri does not offer a VR compatibility, or am I wrong?
Best regards

Hello all,
We are Hoppenbrouwers Techniek, a Dutch MEP company, we Engineer\Construction\Maintenance Building\Site installations. Some of the applicaties we use are;
Revit - To design and engineer.
BCF - To communicate challenges between different applications
Solirbi - For checking and validating models.
Dalux - We are currently starting this up.Of course we still use the coffee corner tho share thoughts and applications like AutoCAD, Office. Because of the simple reason, not everything is BIM (yet).
