    Hello all!

I’ve been getting reports throughout our company regarding usage of Solibri when opening BIG .smc files. (~400mb)
It’s sluggish and sometimes not even usable at all during meetings and presentations.

Some users have diverted to (dare I say it) Navisworks to even be able to open .smc/.ifc files without the software crashing or just being way to sluggish.

Mind you, the majority of users within the company are not using high end laptops, rather I5, 8gb RAM, IntelHD specs, but non-the-less, this issue was not present a year ago… I, myself, am using an I5, 16gb RAM, IntelHD and also feeling some of the larger models are tough, but I’ve learned to close all other applications when opening them.

Has anybody else had these issues?

    Thank you!

Edit: Of course they are not opening .smc in Navisworks, just .ifc

I’ve had the same problem and I have 32gb of ram. One suggestion is to edit the file named “Solibri.vmoptions” and set the first line to about 28gb (if you have 32).

happened to me also last time I opened Solibri (after a long time and last update) that the model was not as fast as it used to be. First I thought it was on my computer, but the problem is still here…

            Hello All!

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with performance. With the current release 9.10.8, we have internally seen improvements regarding IFC opening times, and we are working to improve performance constantly. Although we cannot say exactly what might be causing problems on a mid-level machine, here are some tips from our online help which may be beneficial:

            • Increasing memory usage via vmoptions

            • General Settings

            • 3D settings

@Joel and others, if you have some specific cases which are causing noticeable performance issues compared to a previous version, would you be able to provide those files for performance testing and development? If so, please send me a direct message, where I can provide an upload link.

            Kind regards,

Toni on behalf of the Solibri team

@dothedew I have set my memory to 12288mb (12gb) since I only have 16gb RAM… But I’m guessing it has to do with the overall performance…

A tip for everybody dealing with big models: check if your models contain components with a lot of round geometry. This can be checked with an ITO. (Triangle count).

For what I know there is not a rule for what is considered a ‘high amount’, but when the number is above 14.000 I normally try to do something with it. I have examples where the file size has halved…
