    Dear Solibri Society,

    It is almost Halloween, so here comes my Solibri scary story.

    It was a cold October night when I was alone at the office preparing rulesets for a customer. One of the tasks seemed simple - Space Dimensions Must Be Within Sensible Bounds, where certain spaces need to be bigger than 3,8m². So I Prepared my test file in ArchiCAD in which there were 10 different spaces, 4 of which were deliberately smaller than required. I took the SOL/230/1.1 in which these Spaces have to have required Properties, where I choose Area, to be greater than or equal to 3,8m².

    To my amazement, only 1 space did not have the required property 😲. As I started to investigate these Spaces, that should not pass the test, I found out that in 4 Spaces the calculated area is completely mismatched than it should be and was in ArchiCAD. I set up an ITO and checked different properties and I found out that the ArchiCADQuatities and BaseQuantities are OK, but the Area of some Spaces was completely different.
    It is funny because the calculated Volume was OK and also the Spaces are simple and rectangular.

    I do not have the original IFC as it was overwritten in the ongoing process. I tried to replicate the error but somehow could just not do it. I tried to create Spaces/Zones in ArchiCAD with different methods and also tried all possible exporters, but I “failed” as every IFC, later on, was OK – Area did match the ArchiCADQuatities and BaseQuantities.

    It was a bitter experience and from that night I always use the original Properties as I can not trust the calculated ones.

    Has somebody experienced something similar or does anybody know what happened there?

      Sorry, very late answer, but probably it helps you in future. Did you update the rooms in ArchiCAD before exporting the IFC? We had the same issue and the problem was, that the rooms weren’t updated.

        @Mario
        it is long ago since I posted this.

        I just think it is strange that the BaseQ are OK, but the Solibri interpreted values are not.
        If I would not update the Model in Archicad before export, the BaseQ would be also incorrect?

          @marchi I think that will be exactly the case. The base quantities are written to the IFC file by the authoring software. If the values of the authoring software are not updated, they are written to the IFC with the current status. I could of course be wrong, but as far as I know it is mandatory to update the rooms before exporting IFC files.

            there is a picture showing IfcSpace “Bad 4c”, where the depicted Geometry and BasQ (Area: 1,75x2,10=3,675m²) are the same, but the SOlibri Values are off.

            Are you suggesting that the Solibri Values are correct and newer, while the Geometry&BaseQ are not correct because there were not updated in the Authoring Tool?
